Scott Bader Product Specialist Hiran Vegad says, “The CPS Disc Centrifuge provides particle sizing data that always surprises users . . . The CPS technique is easy to understand and use, and by giving real, accurate, reliable ...
Making a sizeable impact
The more complex the particle sizing problem, the more you need the CPS Disc Centrifuge.
Precise measurements of particle size distribution are critical in many applications. Precise particle size measurement aids in research, development, and quality control, and facilitates compliance with nano-particulate regulations.
CPS co-founders Steve Fitzpatrick and Ron Ellis recognized the importance that precise particle size control has on product quality when they worked together at Firestone Plastics Company in the 1970s. They were tasked with optimizing particle size distributions in micron and sub-micron scale emulsion polymers, at a time when no good methodology for measurement in this size range existed. Lacking a commercially available instrument, the two developed a crude, early model of what would become CPS Instruments' Disc Centrifuge.
In 1992, noting a continued need for high-resolution particle size analysis, Steve and Ron established CPS Instruments to provide a high-resolution option for particle size characterization.

US Patent 5,786,898
One of our innovations resolves the historical limitation posed by low density samples (particles that float in the fluid in which they are suspended).
CPS Instruments developed a unique disc design, where samples are deposited at the bottom of the spinning centrifuge chamber rather than to the surface. This allows low density particles to float toward the fluid surface. Many materials that were once difficult or impossible to measure by sedimentation can now be measured easily and with the high resolution that the CPS Disc Centrifuge is known for.
