Scientists at Rohm and Haas recently published a patent for their work creating polymeric microspheres for use in coatings. The patent, Process for Preparing and Aqueous Dispersion of Polymeric Microspheres, was filed in Aug. 2018 and published Mar. 7, 2019.
Polymer particles of a size of 1 μm to 25 μm are ideal for creating coatings with a matte finish that is clear and smooth. Prior to this invention, though, it has been difficult to create such a coating without a high quantity of much finer particles. These finer particles form a gel that is difficult to remove during the production particle.
In the process of developing this procedure, the inventors utilized the CPS Disc Centrifuge to measure median weight average particle size and coefficient of variation.
